Park in Idaho Springs near Harold A. Anderson Park and Old Locomotive so you can walk under 1-70. There is a neat little trail to take you to the Water Wheel as well as the story with its history. It is so pretty with the waterfall next to it. It is larger than we expected!

It's a nice little memorial of sorts, hidden by the freeway. We went in tbe evening and it was very peaceful. Worst part is, as other reviewers have pointed out, the directions to this place on Google Maps is terribly off. It literally takes you to the hill where there's a flag beneath which is the water wheel. Instead, you have to drive into the downtown of Idaho Springs. There's a parking lot on water street. Try to find the walkway beneath the freeway bridge, that leads you to the water wheel park.

We missed this area last time because it was on the other side of the highway from the Idaho springs main strip of shops. There is a path from the city hall building with the train in the back that goes under the overpass. There are 3 benches in front of the wheel for viewing. It's quite a peaceful spot. You will see water rafters coming through the creek water because there is an entry point for the rafting groups further down the walking path.

Learn the hard way to not follow Google map, leads to dirt path above the wheel. Nice trail, but if you're looking for the view of the Wheel, it aint it. Best to Google map the "Clear Creek Ranger District" and park there and walk to the "Charlie Tayler Water Wheel Trail".

This is a neat landmark to see while in ID springs. Easy walk to it and fun information to read when you get to it. Very pretty while the waterfall is half frozen. The creek is nice for photos or just a stop to take a break and sit. Grab some coffee and go take a break here while looking at history.

If you're in Idaho Springs for a brewery, lunch, or some shopping, the water wheel is worth the 3 minute walk from the main parking lot.
