I am an alum of this school, class of 1993, and currently a trustee. This is a unique school for unique kids. It is a special place. There is a reason it has been around for 50 years. May it be around for another 50! If you are a student or parent looking for a different kind of place, please take some time to check out Sep School!

Our son landed at September School after two very challenging years at a large public high school. It's been a godsend. He went from thinking school is meaningless and not worth the effort to enjoying many of his classes and coming home happy. The small class size, the personal attention, the caring and supportive community have all transformed his attitude toward school and learning. At September School, he isn't expected to expected to think and perform like everyone else. Teachers support him while also still holding him accountable. We also love the policy of not giving homework, which means assignments get completed in class and school stays at school. September School certainly isn't right for every kid, but for those that need a non-traditional learning environment, it's amazing.

Our family has a student here. It began with her not wanting to go to school and terrified about going to a public high school. Too big as our child suffers from social anxiety and has been diagnosed with depression. September School was the perfect fit for her because of the small student to teach ratio, relationship based learning, and genuine care and bandwidth from the faculty. Can't say enough about how it has saved our child and now she thrives!

Run away from this school as fast as you can. The board went rogue, fired the principal, and many of the good teachers left. Then one of these board members appointed herself principal, hired her relatives and cronies, and even more of the good teachers left. Whatever this school used to be, it is not that school any more. Horribly disorganized, no accountability or oversight for the people running it according to their mood or whim, not a safe space for children whatsoever. If you want your kids to be traumatized worse than they ever were in public school, this is the place for you. If you love your children even a little bit, don't even consider sending them here. It used to be phenomenal, until Kiri Westby, Kate Hise, Alison Kelly, and particularly Sharon Jordan, destroyed it. RUN AWAY FROM SEPTEMBER SCHOOL.

September School has been the best experience for my daughter. I really appreciate the inclusive community and mutual respect between students and teachers. People are actually nice to each other! Kids are treated with respect and the staff is so caring. What a difference from regular high school.

Imagine the kind of learning that happens when a school meets a student wherever they are. Imagine what learning might be like in a school that holds as a core value the quality of relationship—between students, teachers and staff. That's the exceptional experience September School creates every day for all its students. And I’m grateful for the profound impact the school has on my own child.

This place is warm and engaging, but has so much research and experience behind its approaches. Our daughter was struggling in public school due to learning difficulties and emotional challenges. She loves this place as a student and we as parents love it as we’ll, especially it’s relational approach
