Our daughters attended Sharmila Montessori School in Portola Valley, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Sharmila is incredibly kind and affectionate, creating a warm and nurturing environment that our girls absolutely loved. It’s rare to find a place where kids are excited to go even on their days off, but that was definitely the case here.

Beyond the caring atmosphere, Sharmila excels in both academics and life skills. She has a unique way of engaging the children, making learning both fun and meaningful. We saw our girls grow not just academically but also in confidence and independence.

Sharmila Montessori in Portola Valley, California, is an exceptional child care service. The staff is not only friendly but also deeply committed to the children’s emotional well-being. Their focus on individualized development makes it a wonderful place for kids.Ms. Sharmila is a wonderful teacher and deeply cares about every child at the school. She is accommodating and understanding and goes out of her way to make the children’s experience truly memorable. As working parents, we’re incredibly thankful for the safe, fun, and loving environment provided by the entire team at Sharmila Montessori. Our daughter genuinely looks forward to going there!

Sharmila's school is amazing and we are so fortunate to have found her and the great teachers there. Our two kids have been there for a combined 7 years and have done so well under her care. First, she is patient, kind and loving to all the children. You can tell that it is really her passion to make sure kids learn how to be good people above all else. Second, I'm amazed at how much our kids have picked up writing, reading and scholastic achievements. Our kids were more than well prepared for kindergarten and the transition was easy. Last and most important, we trust Sharmila and the teachers and know our kids are safe in her care. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend this school!

Having our daughter join Sharmila’s when she was 2 has undoubtedly been one of the best decisions we’ve made as parents. 2 and a half years in, our daughter has come out as a confident, kind and curious kid, thanks to Sharmila and her teaching staff.

Sharmila herself is passionate about kids - in the best way possible. She creates an excellent environment for holistic learning and growth. She has done a fantastic job hiring excellent teachers and retaining them. The preschool itself is located in a beautiful campus - great classrooms, playgrounds in a natural setting.

If you’re within driving radius of this place, you’ll be missing out if you don’t consider Sharmila Montessori.

My daughter graduated from Sharmila Montessori House of Children this summer. We were all sad to leave while feeling gratitude for being in this school for preschool and all it has accomplished for our daughter. I highly recommend this school.
Some callouts why we are big fans:
- The owner Sharmila is very caring and skilled at early education, and she has built a good team of teachers. The disciple is taught here in a gentle and caring way. It is based on understanding the child’s character and corrective feedback. No angry faces, no time outs but instead ‘teaching’ the right way and consistency to establish the lines and discipline. I observed all the children including mine were their most cooperative versions in this school. What an amazing transformation we witnessed for some too.
- She is very careful and picky with the teachers in the team. Most of them are with her for a long time and when she was expanding the team, she was very tuned into the kids’ reactions and feedback during the newcomer’s first weeks.
- The school has 2 playgrounds and kids have always enjoyed the spacious outdoors. One thing I’ve noticed immediately after enrolling our daughter and mentioned to my husband - the school is kept super clean. Every day end of day, both fields and all outdoors are washed and indoors are throughly cleaned and sanitized. The school is always sparkling clean. I’ve been very impressed. We’ve had experience with two other early education schools/ daycares one of which was a big chain and the other was a more boutique daycare. They don’t even compare.

During our time at Sharmila, my daughter was always happy to go to school ( it took her two weeks to feel at home there!) The variety of activities and the amount of learning was impressive. We moved to another state this summer so we don’t get to visit either and still talk about how much we already miss it! The surprise graduation book with the year’s picture almost gave us tears the first time we looked through it! Big thanks to Sharmila for everything and we’ll always remember this period in our lives fondly.

My niece goes to Sharmilla Montessori and I had to write a review because of how much she loves it and we love it.

She has been to another Montessori before but there is no comparison to this one, absolutely none!

Here are the reasons why it is so great in my view.

Ms Sharmilla and her staff are really hard-working, bordering on the side of being work-a-holic. They never shy away from any event or work.

They deal with the kids with so much kindness. Never even a raised voice ever! I think that is the policy in the staff to always be patient, kind and loving to the kids.

The amount of artwork they do every day (each kid), wondering how they get so much energy and time. My niece is so proud of the things she builds everyday and we also look forward to the things she builds.

The language skills my niece has acquired are mind boggling. She has gained confidence in talking to people and also loves using big words in her conversion which is so cute.

My niece loves going to Montessori!! She has emotional attachment to so many teachers because the teachers almost act like second parents, giving them so much love and care (hugs).

They warm up the lunches we send them which sounds small but helps so much because my niece always finished her lunch.

There are so many events that happen in Montessori and the best part is all the performances the kids do which give them so much confidence and develop their personality.

They also focus on STEM and my niece has come a long way with math and reasoning skills.

They are flexible and understanding in every way. Pick up and drop-off timings for example. Sometimes my niece's sister would also join Montesorri and the staff would happily accept. And her sister also loves it.

They are very responsive on text email and deal with any concerns immediately which also shows the devotion they have.

Ms Sharmilla is very kind to kids in need as well. I believe there are some kids in there who are being taken care of without charge and teachers even bring lunches for those kids. Unbelievable!

Also last but not least the teachers stay there for a long time and the reason is how much Ms Sharmilla takes care of her staff. The staff feels like a big family, supporting each other through pregnancy and other important life changes. Ms Sharmilla maintains a certain standard with her staff while giving them so much love and support in every possible way.

I have a daughter of my own now who is 6 weeks old, but hoping she will also go here 🙂

Sharmila Montessori is a hidden gem! Our son is now in the spring of his second year attending this school and we could not be happier with the experience he's had and the progress he has made. This small school is well organized and structured and Sharmila and her staff are all very caring and supportive. Sharmila is very skilled at creating clear expectations and boundaries for the children while maintaining a high level of respect and space for development of individual personalities. Her warm and caring energy sets the tone every day at drop off. We will be sad to say goodbye this summer when our son graduates. Fortunately he has made many friends while attending.
