What an amazing place this is! A family owned and operated business that TRULY cares DEEPLY about our children's education. The change in just under a year has been MONUMENTAL!
Like everyone plagued by politics these last 15 or so months, your child has probably been mandated to stay home.
Never mind all the scientific evidence about elementary children NOT being a risk to spread Covid as 1st thought earlier in the year 2020.
The 20/21 school year by all rights should of been open 5 days a week with no masks, ever for kids. (In my humble opinion)
We found Dr. Howard through a mutual friend I coach softball with and immediately called. She has been going 2xs a week since last August 2020.
After the initial 3 months of my child being kept out of school. SMUSD graduated her from the 3rd grade with flying colors.
We brought her in to get evaluated. Only to find out that she was getting ready to start 4th grade with a 1st grade reading and comprehension score. Just as disturbing her mathematics was barely 2nd grade level.
That is what just 90 days of no school did to our daughter. With a dad at home working daily with her best I could with this horrific distant learning.
Another thing we discovered, that I didn't even know existed, is she had a serious tracking issue with her eyes when she read. Her vision is perfect but for some reason one eye did most of the work leaving the other one unable to do its fair share of work.
All this is capable because of Dr. Howard's advanced method of testing that he has on site and something I had never even heard of before meeting him.
I was born in 1970 so obviously a lot has changed.
1st that we were going to need to get my daughter in to see his eye Dr. who specializes in this kind of thing.
This was all done, believe me, on faith. Because of the trust I had in my friends who recommended him and had sent all 4 of their kids through, with tremendous success.
All I can say is this has been, hands down, one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Our daughter, 10 months later is reading well above 5th grade level and by the beginning of 21/22 school year. She'll no doubt be an entire year ahead in her words per minute and comprehension level.
Equally as impressive is she's doing amazing in math and exactly where she's supposed to be as is if Covid had never happened.
We are firm believers in the concept of having your kids a minimum of a year ahead. Two years preferably, but atleast a year ahead of what's being taught.
She's managed to catch up 4 yrs of words per minute & reading comprehension and 3 yrs in mathematics.
Now that in my opinion is in one word, "Priceless!"
I cannot begin to express my gratitude for Dr. Howard and his overwhelming love for children. Loving what you do in life is rare, and Dr. Howard definitely loves his job, cares about children and above all their education and character of those kids.
The world needs more people teaching our children like Dr. Howard. SMUSD board, Superindentant, Principles, could all take notes because frankly what's happening now is frightening.
Thank you Dr. Howard for helping our family rest a little bit easier knowing that our daughter will be starting 5th grade well ahead of the curve. We are eternally grateful ?❤!
