Buckle in.
I called them last minute during my first pregnancy as I wanted to check on my baby while waiting for my next doctor's appointment and they had an available slot fortunately. The ladies were very kind, and what they offer is helpful to those in need.
My issue is that, during my ultrasound, they avoided telling me that my baby was no longer living. I didn't realize it at first because it was my first pregnancy, but within a handful of seconds from starting my ultrasound, the lady very quickly turned the volume off so you couldn't hear anything, and they didn't really say much during the appointment. My baby wasn't moving, and I chalked it up to us catching her at a moment of her sleeping, and I was none the wiser. I thought nothing of it, until I went to my actual doctor's appointment and found out my baby had not been alive for weeks, and I had been at Refuge just the day before.
Her cord had been gotten wrapped around her neck, and my OB pointed out in my ultrasound picture from Refuge where you can see the cord around her.
I do not fault anyone at Refuge as it was a freak accident and out of anyone's control, but I wish they had been honest with me and suggested I go to the hospital or ANYTHING ELSE other than keeping the truth from me until I found out the next day, thinking my baby was alive and well and tragically learning otherwise.
It might be dramatic, but my OB's office was right down the street from Refuge, so during my second pregnancy it was almost traumatic to even drive past their building, and for a long time I couldn't even look at my ultrasound from them, as it was the last one I got of my first baby.
Again, I don't fault anyone, and the ladies I dealt with were very kind, but please, PLEASE, don't keep things like that from your patients.
